2003 Message from George Durney regarding Siena Rugby Scholarship

Rugby Alumni and Friends:

I am happy to present to you this year's Rugby Alumni Scholarship Award recipient, Mike Pettinato. Mike will be receiving a $950.00 scholarship in the names of Terence McShane and Michael Taddonio. I am sure many of you remember Mike - he has been Siena's captain and an outstanding scrum half for the past three years. He has run by many of us during the last several alumni games. Mike is a true leader both on and off the field and will make all of us proud as he represents the team and the alumni.

As a quick reminder, Joe Zimmerman will be in the second year of his award, which was the inaugural appointment. Joe has been a great example of the Siena spirit, leading several charitable events in the name of the rugby club and the greater Siena community.

The scholarship now has about $65,000 in house and, once all pledges are received, we will pass the $120,000 mark which should generate over $6,000 per year at full strength. For those of you who have contributed, you have the thanks of the team and the school not to mention the individuals whose lives you've already touched. For those of you who haven't, please remember there is still time. The cost of education continues to rise and our ability to reach out and make a difference is an invaluable gift. Please remember that many of us made five year commitments/contributions and your diligence in honoring your commitment is critical to the completion of our efforts.
