Season’s Greetings Rugby Alumni & Friends!

While many of you were at the malls or parked in front of your TV’s, on the first Saturday in December rugby alumni were on the pitch at Siena proving (mostly to themselves) that they could still play the game! The pitch, now with permanent goal posts and pads courtesy of our spring dedication, was soft from early week rains, which proved to be a tremendous help given the osteoporosis from which many of the older alumni suffer!

The team was led, both on and off the field, by the ageless one – Tom Harvey. Tom continues to be an inspiration to all of us with his boundless energy and love for the game. This year he was quoted as saying that he may donate his social security check to the Club for touring jerseys!

This year’s alumni squad, helped by the youth of some recent graduates, dominated a Siena team that had several A-side players out with injuries. It is rumored that after watching the alumni team warm up, many current players thought it best to nurse their bumps and bruises rather than tangle with, what looked to be, a “Myths and Legends” squad.

In any event, please mark your calendars for the first Saturday in May (May 7th) for our Spring Classic. We are working on the theme right now but it will have all the grandeur and pageantry of last year’s event and will, once again, be a family favorite! For all of you golfers, please also mark Friday, May 6th 2005 for our 4th Annual Golf Tournament.

In the meantime, we hope you and your families have a very Merry Christmas and a great start to the New Year!

All the best,

Your Rugby Alumni Planning Committee
