2006 Spring Alumni Game Update
Siena Rugby Alumni and Friends,
For those of you who took part in this year's Rugby Alumni weekend, thank you for your participation and contributions! For those of you who were unable to attend, you missed another great celebration of friendship that continues to endure over time. Please mark the date now for next year (the first weekend in May) so you don't have to hear about what you’ve missed...,
The weekend started with our finest golf tournament ever thanks to the efforts of Joe McCrudden '87, Dave Feenan '84, and Tom Thornton '83. In true rugby fashion, the winning foursome was decided by a four-team boat race (there is video of some excessive spillage, but it has not been contested as of the writing of this communication). We are still counting, but it looks like we raised over $10,000, which we will continue to use for charitable donations.
We then proceeded to The Ruck where we not only heard about how great we were "in the day" on the pitch, but re-lived several hundred golf shots from the day's tournament. The Ruck has truly become a cultural melting pot where the new and the old came together to enjoy an evening based on the camaraderie of a game and a way of life.
Saturday started with a fieldside mass and then the fans were treated to two great rugby games. The lady alumni played hard only to succumb to a well-coached Siena squad who has just came off of an undefeated season. The men's game saw the older, more experienced alumni win a decisive victory with a lopsided score. The current squad played good rugby but the alumni experience proved to be a little much for the younger players to overcome.
As always, the day ended with a great Tex-Mex barbecue and the kids were entertained, thanks to Magic Man Tom Joyce '85 and the always-popular bouncy bounce! Thanks to Father Kevin Daly for celebrating the mass and providing an inspiring homily. We'd also like to give a special thanks to Nate Maloney and Dave Smith along with the entire Siena community for their support.
We wanted to close by remembering Terence McShane '86 and Michael Taddonio '84 and their families on this 5th year anniversary of our tribute to them. As long as we continue to celebrate their lives, they will live on in the hearts and minds of many.
We hope you and your families have a great summer and we will be back to you in the fall with details about the September Alumni Sports Weekend.
