Father Kevin Tortorelli Scholarship Established

Siena Rugby Alumni and Friends,

Many of you know Father Kevin Tortorelli, OFM and the impact he has had on Siena Rugby. He may have been your professor, the presider at your wedding, baptized your children or comforted you and your family when tragedy or loss has happened. He turned 60 years old this pasts year and several individuals got together to start a scholarship in his honor. There was a reception held on March 15th in New York City to launch this effort. The scholarship is already close to $150,000 and, on behalf of the Siena Rugby Alumni, we were included as Founding Members. We used proceeds from our many years of golf outings to make a contribution in the name of our Rugby Alumni Community. Given his impact on not only the Club, but the many lives he has touched, we thought it was a fitting use of our funds. As many of you may know, he performed the services at Terence’s Funeral and was a great comfort to many during the 9/11 tragedy.

Below are his remarks along with the attached word document that was the speech he gave at the reception on the 15th. He will be celebrating mass again for us at our Alumni weekend. Please find time to congratulate him on this well-deserved honor.

Your Rugby Planning Committee

To Siena College Rugby alums,

I want to reach out to all of you in gratitude for your role as a founding member of the scholarship in my name at Siena. It is a great honor and distinction for which I confess I feel unworthy. I am grateful for your faith in me and by the kindness of your memories! I thought I'd attach a copy of my remarks Saturday evening, March 15, at a reception at which the scholarship was recognized. I hope they convey something of my profound appreciation to all of you.

With Easter blessing,

Fr. Kevin
