Siena Rugby Alumni

Since 1973 the Siena Rugby Club, both women and men's, has provided a refuge for strong individuals to grow academically, physically, and socially during their years in Loudonville, NY. The contributions that were made in the classroom, on the Rugby pitch, and to the Siena community as a whole stand unmatched. Today Siena Rugby Alumni continue that tradition.

2015 Siena Rugby Weekend Wrap-up

14 years and counting of successful Siena Rugby Alumni Weekends. The weather for our golf outing was perfect; both the conditions and the course were in great shape. As a result, we had some great scores and a record four groups came in at -10 forcing a match of cards playoff. We also were privileged to witness the very first Siena Rugby Alumni Golf Tournament hole-in-one which earned Jerry Leary $10,000 for his accomplishment. Congratulations, Jerry!

We again saw a great raffle including 30+ prize winners - just a few of the amazing prizes were a Go Pro courtesy of Ron Bjorkland, ’85 and two Super Bowl tickets thanks to Tom McGovern, ’86.

Saturday provided another incredible day with abundant sunshine and warm temperatures. Father Kevin Tortorelli started the day with Mass and shared an inspirational message about how important it is to stay connected. This was reinforced by the community that came together over the weekend - the current and alumni Siena Rugby players and many family members and friends. The question Father Kevin posed (for those of you who missed Mass...) was what kind of person are we choosing to be and how will we impact the lives of others? It is a reminder that we are all blessed with the opportunity to give back and make a difference. We are sure Michael, Terence, and Kellie are smiling down on all that has been accomplished in their names.

Another weekend of solid rugby filled the day on Saturday with both the Men’s and Women’s sides showing us the game we all love. The weekend would not have been complete without the after-party where, together, we were able to relive our past triumphs, share our present successes, and look to the future with great optimism. Special thanks to Mary Beth Finnerty, ’85, Director of Alumni Relations, for leading her team in support of our weekend. Also, a big shout out to Jim Daley, ‘86 for winning the Distinguished Alumni Award for his many years of contributions to the Club and for being our Web-master par excellence!

Be sure to check out our FaceBook page for photos from the weekend.

Thanks again to all for an outstanding weekend of fun. We hope you and your families have a great summer. We’ll see you in 2016!
